Kazakh Tus Kiiz, Embroidery felt decoration

Tus Kiiz is an embroidery for yurt decoration,
Translated from Kazakh language, the word Tuskiiz means “wall felt”.
The embroidered wall carpet tuskiiz occupied an honorable place in the yurt and served as a protective carpet. Therefore, often together with him, they hung a dressed fox, wolf or kamcha skin on the wall, which, according to popular belief, was supposed to protect a person’s dwelling from the evil eye and damage. Usually tus kiiz consists of a central field, framed on three sides by an ornamented border in the form of a wide rectangular arch. The lower part of the rug hanging on the wall above the bed was covered with blankets and pillows, so there was no need to embroider it.
